Test a new feature: Get yourself on the maps!

(Please note: this is just some kind of open beta test, official announcement will follow)

There's something new in development: The Entropia Universe Community Map.

It looks like that:

Please try it, get yourself on the map, it needs some testing and feedback. Also whether the process is self-explanatory enough or it would need further instructions. And that's why I don't add any instructions to this post.

Please spread the word, invite friends and soc mates to join us on the map and maybe share the page on social media using the addtoany module on the upper right of the page.

A personal note: I try to avoid the pain in the ass that is Google as far as possible and keep it free and open. Therefore the mapping service for this map is provided by openlayers.org and the map itself is openstreetmap.org. You might as well check out openstreetmap.org and add a few things around the place where you live.
But if a majority of people really wants to have Google Maps V3 incl. Streetview enabled we will get it done.

Another side note: You do not only appear on the map but also as a result of the process a particpant profile will be added to you wiki user page.

You can use your user page for quite everything. For example put your youtube videos on the page (like Softhart did :wink (2):) or your EU twitter feed (like you can see on Narfi's page) or newsfeeds of the planets your are interested in, or images, tables, lists,... Any questions, just ask.

You can quickly access your user page: When you are logged in and on the wiki the first word of the top- most line will show your username and clicking it will get you to your user page. On your user page click the "Edit" tab.

Try it! Just don't mess it up completely like I did with mine.

Meanwhile I managed to add EU related companies to the map. And in that process I found a nice pic... Check out the guys in Mexico.

So you are requesting full stalking capabilities? Then Categories should be your friend, like:

You didn't specify a county on your participant profile.

It's the central pond. Check out where in Denmark admin lives. ;)

I've added a line to the community page saying: "This wiki has a lot of users, many of which are Registered Users, some of which have created a Participant Profile, Avatar Profile and/or Mentor Profile." Click the links.

I see your user page had 100+ page views already. Which means 100+ times Proud Mary. :)

 

Tip: After you have created your participant profile a link saying "Add avatar profile" will appear below your Participant profile on your member page.

You can click it to create an avatar profile which contains fields like "Home Planet" and "Society". Both of which will appear in the popup on the map.

The idea in having a user/participants profiles AND avatars profiles is to keep RL data and In-game data strictly seperated and also we might be able to auto-create avatar pages independently in future.

Not bad for day 1, covering Alaska to Taiwan.

And quite revealing already, fx:

• Calin & Kitty are living close enough to each other to go for a drink.
• The guys in Playa del Carmen, Mexico are having fun
• The EU community is indeed quite mature compared to classical subscription MMOs
• 1/4 of the avatars consider Next Island their home planet
• EntropiaPlanets staff lives in Zoos

Of course the map and stats could be more populated. Invite your friends and socmates, try the addtoany social media thingie on the upper right of the page ().
