Hi... first of all I have to say that Im a newbie at EU and so at mining, but was trying some different things and would like to share with you all. Hope this helps, and sorry about my english. To introduce you to the mining job I must recommend you to read all guides and posts like this, because there are a lot of info out there and some really interesting theories. 1) The most important feature (I think) about any resource is to discover where is it, right ?, some people say it pop ups in a location and you can find it, others say that it appear when you search, in some "casino software" way. The difference about the two systems is that in the first case (it is under the floor and you find it) you have a little control about how and where to search, but in the second case (it appears or not when you search) is a bad new because we lose control about the minig procedure... this means that we will receive a mining spot if we fit some conditions like: other spots found, mining amount, money returned... and so. What do I think ?, to be fair, not sure, but I want to think that it is under the floor and we can search and find it. 2) Use 100% of your time, mine for 2 kind of mats instead only 1. As you should probably know, the mining area is equal to 15 seconds running (more or less), so you dont need to put a probe and then other probe, but you can place different probes and bombs to mine for enmatters and ores. I have tested that you can find enmatters and ores almost side by side. How do I do ?, I put a probe, walk till it says if there is any or not (7-10 secs) and then put a bomb, so instead walking 15 seconds you can search for 2 differents mats. Other nice feature of mining 2 mats is a strategyc one, if you meet with other player mining for ores you know that he will have probably cleaned the area, but... you still can mine for enmatters and not lose the travel to that point. 3) Larger deposits sometimes have even better resources. I have read in other forums some players that recommend the "double search", this is to place a bomb and then other bomb, this is a double cost. I have tested that it works in big deposits, so you get the double, sometimes wont work but in the long run it has resulted profitable for me. 4) Ey!, your skills are raising !... Ive tested or at least have worked to me to keep mining at the same heading I was when I receive any skill msg from the game. 5) Some days better and some days worse, have not tested but have realised that some days and some hours of the day (not the same hours every day) you can obtain bigger deposits and other timelines you find just little spots. Have tried to log and play other day to "refresh" the counter ;) and have changed the way the deposits appeared. 6) The place is the place and the place matters. Yeah... there are resources that almost only appear at a zone and if you move out the probability of getting that resource disappear. So, explore and learn what drop every zone. 7) About mining close to the sea or close to mobs... mmm... have read it in many places, players says that there are good spots close to the sea and mobs because players dont usually mine there. Well, dont think so, maybe in the past, but there are many people mining at the beach and maybe lower close to mobs, but... remember that some spots will be lost if you are too close, so not really sure if it deserve our time. If you are a hunter kill them all and mine, but a newbie like me (or maybe you) prefers to keep safe and save time. 8 Recurring mining points.... oh ! ah ! ... I have located 3 good spots and have checked them day after day in differents hours... no respawn. I have even found a really nice spot and loged out in that place and tried for days to log almost every 4 hours to try to search for a respawn in the area... no !!! no !!!... no mats !!! aggggh !!. So, does the mining deposits respawn ?, dont know, maybe it respawn some day but seems it can not be tracked by hours or even days in a week, so even if it respawn its of no use if you can not control it. I ask, what do you think, because I have a notepad with many good spots, should I throw it to the trash ? :( 9) This is a special one, because Ive read some info about players that find mats if they just change the heading. This is something like "I was 20 minutes running north and have not found anything, but changed the heading 40 degrees and started to get some mats". Well, this link with the previously exposed idea about you find the mats or you search for mats, are it there before we mining or are there when we mine ?. I have tried this situation and found that if you does not have good spots in a way, if you change your heading usually your luck will change, but... I think its like many things in real life. Some times thing just doesnt work and then suddently every thing start to get better, I think that the game place the mats using some kind of algorithm and some days you just walk in empty areas of that mathematic formula, this way if you change your heading you "connect" with other non empty area. The feeling could be something like "I get spots when I change heading" but I think that you get spots because you moved to a new location *because* you was not finding anything at your heading. 10) Last but not least... so what do you think ?, its mining a job 100% lucky controlled ?, or maybe... just maybe can we make it better day after day ?, can we be more and more experienced ?. Can we get some peds mining ?. I think (its a newbie thinking) that mining have some opportunities to make it different of other players, many tricks and tips that you can just learn trying and testing. BUT !!!... what do you think ? any idea or critic is welcome, share you knowledge about mining with us, because we have a new pick and wanna try it ;)
I agree with you here I believe that resources are like mobs and spawn underground for you to find. The reason i think this is an educated guess based on several experiances of me and others. If finding a deposit was only dependent on area your in then skill whether you get a deposit i should be able to yield the same results running behind and dropping in the same location of someone else as i would running beside them. We all know this is not the case. I have never bombed an area with the same tool as some one in the same spot even 5 seconds after and yielded better results as that person. To expand on this a little i have found that EU is broken into meshing servers. each server has a resource list. So i could bomb a straight line north 55+ meter west of the server line (Which you can see if you look) and get all lyst. But if i go 55+ meters west find no lyst and all gazz. I think there are a number of spawns for a server and once a claim is found another will popup somewhere in the server area. not necisarrily in the same exact position. I also use both bombs and probes. I am anal and actually check my position to ensure ive reached exactly 55 meters (the range on my finders) The second count is just to iffy to me since as a miner you get heavy fast and that causes you to run slower. Thus making the distance covered less at the end per second. I have done this and was happy with it. However i find that i am still searching area that ive searched before thus wasting valuable probe/bomb efficiency. I find that strategic carpet bombing works well and deposits over X ill rebomb. This is a topic i am not very sure about. I know that skill gains happen because of certain things. However Surveying,Mining are related directly to the ability to use finders and their depth. Thus i do not look too closely to these. Now Geology, Perception, and CGA are skills that do not really have a defined function for a tool. These are the skills that i will look at for indications of where resources are or not. I believe this just gets into a few variables most choose to ignore. 1.) You are not the only one mining, It is very likely that bad runs happen (even in areas that you know are good). This is most likely that the area is not just good for you but some other miners as well. Ive found that bad runs need new locations since its not likely that all your areas have been mined out. 2.) Unlucky. It is just posible that you are hitting arround most of the claims. Since the search area of a bomb or probe is circular in nature, without overlapping, you will not be able to cover all the ground. The fix to this ive found is to just carpet bomb an area. Since this allows more complete coverageof an area 6) The place is the place and the place matters. Yeah... there are resources that almost only appear at a zone and if you move out the probability of getting that resource disappear. So, explore and learn what drop every zone. I have a theory about this. I stated above that resource spawn points cover an entire server. Well what happens when you have a server area that is half under water. I believe that those points that would be underwater get kicked to the shore. Thus making the shore contain more resources. (Just a theory) Points perhaps not but areas yes. I keep a detailed log of drops and claims with type size, time and various other things. Because ive done this and exparament mined most of eudoria, I know where most resoures are and the concentration of that resource. This may get into server area changes. If your running straight north your staying in a single server for a while. But if you change to 45 degrees northwest you are now traversing to another server in time. Granted north would eventually do the same thing. This could also get into, as you stated, being stuck in the dead zone of some spawn placement algorythym. I am not a newbie miner nor am i an advanced one. I however do consistantly break even/make money from mining runs. Alot has to do that I track areas and resources. If you are mining an area with just oil or lyst it is harder to make money then mining an area full of force nexus and Erdorium. (Both 140% - 150%TT) I mostly mine at 80% TT return. But with the average at 125% for 80 ped return on 100 i get 100 back. I hope this helps someone. And im sorry i missed this post back in january.
