  1. MindStar9

    MindStar9 Floating in Space

There's much to say, but not all negative. However, I won't do that here. I'll write a Blah'g entry or an article at the newly revamped MSM site regarding what my thoughts are. Dave Dobson "does it right" as far as I'm concerned, and Cyrene has been basically flying below the radar for a while, but I believe them to have the potential as well.

I've never said that I hated EU, and actually love the universe for personal reasons, but it's not to "play" the game, because it has become way too costly to play at the level I'd like to, and I'm totally bored not to. However, it's the people that I care about the most, and why I've done what I've done over the years, but that's over now. I just get in the game now and then and explore with Obie, that's it.

The game is personal for everyone who gets involved with it, and if it works for some, then I guess there's nothing more to say other than to enjoy it.

I'll write another time, because right now, I'm incredibly sad about something that totally baffles me.

  4. I had to agree with your post as It does say it all,

Skyrim I am definitely not done with "yet" being yesterday's trash that nobody cares about :)

    Skyrim is still a master piece in the gaming arena and has its mark in history's All-Time-High list as being one of the best RPGs developed to date and will continue to be for years to come "without" the necessity of any further added developer based content;

Mods developed by the community, just make it that much more awesome and beautiful in so many areas, from environment to character models to features to skills & feats to, well you get my point :)

    Modding community FTW!

That is even with Elder Scrolls Online, starting from the second era in its history (LORE > http://www.entropiaplanets.com/threads/elder-scrolls-lore-video-series-thankyou-to-shoddycast.11479/) having been released and just as awesome so far as the hype promised.

  5. No need for us to fight over Entropia,

We all have our individual tastes, preferences and attached luck with certain things in life.

Entropia is just one of those things, for some its ok, for others, well ...

    Like I said, it is not all bad, but it is tainted in my eyes, maybe not yours, my gambling luck was not enough for undertaking any activity in Entropia which required substancial amounts of money at the level of gameplay I enjoy play at;

So I have joined the tens of thousands of others who have a distaste after so many years caught up within Entropia's suffocating grip coming out somewhat unscathed financially, however moreso scathed on other levels.

I am just lucky that it has not impacted my life as badly as the many tens of thousands who have gone down this path before me. I guess that is where my luck has come into play, having the money to spare to do crazy shit like play Entropia as paid for entertainment.

In the end, the journey is one that is part of life and living life, it brings us to a new level of growth and understanding about ourselves and others and the mundane physical world's traps and pitfalls in life ...
eg. Money/finances and our attachment to and lust for more (greed/gluttony/exploitation of others financially/etc)

  6. Hi MindStar,

Warning: Some open feelings & truths exposed.

I wanted to thank you for your posts and input on the storyline, I will admit, I have not given "great" attention to detail to what Dave has done storyline wise with Arkadia.

I was good friends with Dave for a period ingame before Arkadia was even an idea in his third eye. We had quite a few chats, ingame, email, skype, facebook etc ... some good, some bad about Entropia.

He was actually the first to review and make suggestions on my many page Volcanic Island and associated structures on that island investment idea which I had submitted to Marco B. when I was looking to invest very heavily into Entropia Universe as Lavawalker, way back when :)

To be honest, I had come very close to investing with Dave @ Arkadia too.
$100K USD before buying this IRL ...
    Link > www.planetcalypsoforum.com/forums/showthread.php?231555-New-Rig-setup-and-where-I-live
    (The house, 2nd property)

I was so very close to investing with the others at Arkadia, but alas was convinced against it by family members as being very foolish at the time, especially dad. Well, family and their worries come first I guess ... I since sold the 2nd house recently and have a lot of RL spare cash again which I reinvested mostly into a rollover/nestegg fund for now.

My greatest fear with getting involved with Dave's planet Arkadia is it may skew my view and perception of him and the friendship we had. Communication with Dave & his wife has been non-existent for some period now. The last was the grats on the new bub #2.

As you know my feelings on Entropia Universe present day are no secret after the awakening and I do not wish to paint my memories of Dave with that tainted brush.

Moving along, about the upset your experiencing ...

I hope this leads to some insight, it is just a deduction, that is all.

This is a touchy subject and a guess at best, but please do not tell people they need their meds, and that is coming from a friend. Some do require these meds for what-ever reason they do (The reasons are too vast to go into), maybe Softy was offended in some way, just sayin', on this point, especially since you did it more than once in multiple replies to her having some fun.

I know you were doing it in the spirit of fun, but seriously, in today's fucked up world, many are reliant on meds of one type or another. (Be they crutches or whatnot)

It is like saying FUCK! repeatedly - Do you want a fuck, do you need a fuck or are you just cursing or generally using it in conversation because of your upbringing .. being a bit of a yobbo and all or are you just trying to live it tough ...

As you can see, so many views, perceptions and altered variations of that mentioned can be drawn from using a single term as in my example, phrase or sentence in life.

Anyway to put a lighter edge on things ... I have a feeling this may go down the wrong way lol.
But you know I am a cheeky bastard at that .. see 20:50+ in this video.

My idol is Geralt ofc :tongueout: I so agree with his actions and would live the Geralt life if I could! .... Maybe Softy is facing a difficult time/trauma/whatever, so please be gentle in your playful responses to her.

  7. Lucky it was a little chat, more than 10 years ago when I was playing Everquest 2, the chat UI was absolutely awesome. I will keep the negativity down as much as possible, but if this release of MindArk's chat UI is anything to go by, then as a gamer in an MMO with social aspects attached I am highly insulted. It doesn't even stack up, not even close to Everquest 2's chat UI from more than 10 years ago ...

Its a freakin' insult to gamers and game development everywhere IMHO.

So I put up with a mundane inflexible, uncustomisable, chat UI for seven years, a long period of hyping by MA about them taking forever in a day to develop a new chat system, and then this release of their amazing effort on a new chat system & UI ... WTF! lmao!

I did laugh so hard, I thought April fools had came early to be honest.

Anyway whatever lol. My Entropia rant for the day.

(PCF) New players: How do u find the chat and UI compared with other games?

    Lancelor said:
Im a returning player also. I really like the chat actually. Feels more like a modern MMO. However the UI and its inflexibility well it still feels like a game from 1999. Actually thats an insult to everquest, its UI at the time was actually better =)

Thread died after that response. Sad though people have to ask the new players how it compares.

Said this to a few in convo this morning:

'Also I have been watching closely the effect of other content being posted on EP .... Your quite right in saying Entropia will get snowed under, lol. 1 person could snow under Entropia tbh it is that shallow in what it has on offer to talk about ...

Wheee! new UFO vehicle and the entropia crowd go wild lol. It is like the poor bastards who play have been starved to death and are being fed a crumb here and there by MA which they get totally excited over. Funny in so many ways, very sad in so many others.'

Try again MindArk, maybe a 10 year old example will help ...
Here I will help you out with a link, since that may be a challenge also, it may get you off on the right foot. In video format.
Links to 10 year old chat and other UIs, a starting point for game developer dummies >

    Since Entropia Universe is a complex gambling stimulator economics simulator;
fx: Bites tongue, hides truth, tries hard to not be too negative ...
I thought I would add this for the devs in case the complexity of the chat UI is too diffficult to comprehend.

Customisation, Modders FTW! (The next step, once you grasp the basics MA)

  8. Wistrel

    Wistrel Kick Ass Elf

I feel a little like someone who walked into a dark building, struck a match and set a candle alight in order to see better.... then walked out of the room only to discover someone knocked the candle over, the building burnt down and then a small war broke out over whether or not the building was ever any good in the first place!

    Wow what a thread!

OK some really good posts though from both sides of the coin. My problem is, I've been around so long now, not to sound cliched but I think I've seen it all before. Someone once asked me how I could stick it out being so active on the forums and so forth when I wasn't even playing the game (this was during myt 3 year break). The answer was, well I'm not playing so talking about playing or developing the game is the next best thing. The problem I have now though is I feel like all the point in suggesting stuff or getting excited has been proven to be worthless. Ultimately MA do as they please. They say they listen and maybe they do. There may even be evidence to that fact. They don't capitalise on it though, Very rarely do they engage with the comunity in a way that would make people feel they have a voice,

Anyhow I'm off on one. What am I saying? ok something like gone are the days where I will debate if the game is any good or try and convince people one way or the other. Also gone are the days where I will spec an idea and post it in the hopes MA will read and implement it. I am trying a new tack recently, Using the support system, be that officially sanctioned threads on forums by PP's or the in game system. I'm seeing how that goes with the bugs. My theory being put up or shut up. If I don't go around telling MA/PP's about that rock that had a hole in it then how will they know? or prioritise such issues? If lots of people moan about broken animations maybe they will say, hey we need better qual control on those cause we get a lot of support tickets about them.

I don't know, its just a theory. I don't use the forums so much though to get excited or hopefull or talk about potential improvements cause I think it isn't practical, I also believe the only way to change the game now is to join MA or a PP. The only way to do that is for them to want you to join and they only way to do that is to be good enough that they want you.

So thanks everyone for the comments and certainly some of those vids are interesting. I wish we have a public list we could vote on for priorties in bug fixing like the everquest guy talked about but... ho hum. it will never happen cause MA think silence and obscurity is the best policy.

Another reason to not post so much now is that the game is better and there is more than there used to be for me to do. I am one of the happy ones sorry to say it. Whatever my gameplay style is even though I'm sure it isn't what MA intended I am happy to make my way in entropia in my casual game play way. Doing my odd little things and forever exploring the landscape and content that is created now at a rate faster than I will ever care to consume it. So long as Entropia continues I'll be happy.

My OP though was more about this strange situation we are in now where there doesn't seem to be a definite goal on the horizon anymore. I was just hoping to know what MA have on the horizon but it seems they are trying a new strategy... say absolutely nothing, don't even speculate or hint. To be fair, whenever they have in the past it hasn't exactly gone well and in many cases never even materialised. Maybe there is another reason to be quiet too... saying the big update is coming tends to create a "waiting mindset" ie maybe there are people who chose to wait... and wait and wait for the chat update or whatever it was that MA said the next big ticket will be. If MA say nothing then no one will expect anything. They will just get on, play the game and not get disapointed when christmas doesn't come for the 15th time in a row ;)

Personally I'm not willing to stand up and say they are wrong. I know what *I* would like them to do in terms of being open... but they clearly don't agree and I can't change that from my sitting room. I guess I'll sit back then and just play the game along with the other games as and when they show up and see what happens in life ;)

    Wistrel

PS I will say, based on what I am seeing of pre funded crowd sourced games and other games that sell copies when not even complete I am dubious about what these games promise and what they will deliver. I also agree that one should never compare an existing out the door product to what someone says they will do or even produces a trailer of. Star Citizen for example, maybe the shinyest game imaginable but as to if it will ever a) get released b) get "finished" or c) be any good/fun/playable that is a whole other ball game. In comparison, a person can be playing Entropia now inside half an hour and IT WORKS. Anyone who ever sells that fact short for less than it is worth needs to know a little more about what is involved in making these games.

    Jamira Samurai Girl

    Farewell dear!
With all the history and all the ups and downs, all the friends, all the experiance ... it'll be incomparable for ever. (Fortunately I canceled my preorder for TESO! It seems the start of it became a major desaster - lol!)

  10. Entropia Universe is like that old movie you come back to watch again due to the utter whackiness and madness that continues to be associated with it.

So yes, I will be checking out EU again in the future,
Revisiting Entropia is much like doing the timewarp again!

  11. Agreed, dreams can come too, and maybe, MindArk developers & management together will set off to explore ways they can improve and evolve Entropia ... In a sense, feeding themselves with new ideas and evolving.

Better demonstrated by this short video, starting from the present day typical MA dev ...
You just never know what the future may hold. To evolve, or not to evolve, that is the ...

  12. Even though I do try to offer Sparkz of hope for MindArk and their future from time to time ...
Especially in the past as FireSparkz Lavawalker on PCF in many a posts on new ideas ... as others have done too before me.

I always come around ot my senses present day and get this wierd feeling that they just do not have the ability to think creatively to the extent required where working concepts can be formed "properly" from ideas suggested by others in the Entropian community ...

Rather than going out and experiencing new things, playing with these new things and seeing what they can do to evolve their own work on Entropia, ie. keeping their finger on the pulse with what is occuring in the gaming industry. Eg. gameplay, technology and all the rest of that good jazz, they rely on others too much ....
Even though MindArk likes to pretend they do the above, they show little to no real evidence of it in their work.

But there is still a malfunction somewhere!
A breakdown in the above mentioned process too (Feedback from the community),
As MindArk does not even capitalise on that ... MindArk just go and ...

Well Wistrel said it best ....
    It reminds me of this:

    Starting @ 13:15 ... seven and a half millions years later ...
leading ot the next next big thing which will take another 10 million years ... leading to ...
and all this time Entropia is stuck in limbo while players, wait and wait and :sleep::sleep: wait and ...

    Starting @ 13:15 ...

    Moral: Go out and experience things, listen to others, learn and grow;
Do not judge these experiences too early as early judgements will restrict your ability to evolve.

    Leading no-where fast ... Still waiting ;)

IMHO ... And this is just my opinion ... The only thing keeping Entropia alive during this "Waiting Room" is the "Dynamic" implementation of the Real Cash Economy concept.

Especially with crafting being the worst example of the three sphered "Dynamic" RCE system ...

  13. 1st of all, nice post. I feel exactly the same. Well, nearly.

I cannot confirm this "reduction on costs" at all.
And I will not explain any further my occasional nights "playing", many months ago, hunting drones or doing mining.
I did that since 2004 and never I had deposit so much for some hours of "fun".
I also cannot confirm I was doing it all at the right time, at the right place, with the right tools. :p

But I can confirm that I still play for free, so I usually dont care about the myth called "bad loots".
But I sometimes think of all the other people that complain ingame or on the internet.
Entropia does not have the best reputation...if any at all.

Just announcements of announcements, publicity stunts. No real love of detail anymore, a story kicked with feet.
I have never really played another MMORPG like this...because there is no other MMORPG like this.
Even if people try to tell you so. This was/is my world.

I have followed it closely over the past 10 years and it was more fun to update my Entropia blog with failures and lies over the past years, then actually playing this "game", believing all the shit, keeping the hope alive. Hope that got spit on.

I really loved this "beeing lost" and when you actually ran past someone, it was usually a mature gamer and this meeting ended up in a nice discussion, most of the time. Or it was another noob and you started to explore the world together.
And even years later you had both of these people on your friendlist.

    Things changed.
Its not only the graphics that changed or the landscape. Its not only about the nerfs. Its not the vehicles from 1980.
Its not just about all the broken promises. Its not just the planet partners that didnt really offer a diversity with a "wow factor", until today. Its not just about casual players that leave after weeks. It is everything together, which slowly destroyed to original ideal. The original concept though, was always evolving and after 10 years of messing with it, MindArk still havent reached the zenith of fail. Who knows, who else pumps his money into this software. Except for shady investors, criminals, psychos and a mass of ignorant people.

I would not have posted here today, if Wistrel would not have told me about the "ComPet" game. Where cats&dogs fight pandas...and atroxes.
I thought I will just ignore it and not post anymore. But the cute Atrox made my itchy fingers type once again. It seems like that I can never leave this "world" behind me but also MindArk never fail(ed) to dissapoint me, in showing, how special they really are. And I mean it, when I say special. =)

For now, $ into Entropia going onto my ATLow list lol.
The last month and a bit of Entropia has sucked $ 1,200 USD out of me thus far,
This just excessive imho for what value I get from other games providing so much more for so much less.

Just too much good other stuff out there at present to play than waste money on a game that can gets old fast. (Boring)

  16. I cant wait to SEE "Citizenship Program" (voting booths) to be re-introduced.

I wonder how it will be any different to a forum (that noone (from MA)) reads anyway.

Maybe the hamster decides how the "vote points" have been distributed through various suggestions/questions.

One can only hope that the "Citizenship Program" will not be cheated by various triple accounts, working for MA...

I can already SEE "The majority decided that...HAIL! Russian hail !"

...we will SEE, not beeing able to change it anyway.

the voting booth (if u ask me) would be the second to worst method of gathering player data (The current method is the worst). My opinion is that if you don't have an active forum with a majority of the player base you are simply wasting time. I have seen it effective that a select group of players can work as a dev communication group as long as they communicate to the rest of the players (and listen to those players).

But if you just stick in voting booths and only 15% of the people vote then the data u are gathering is probably from a useless yes and no question from people who possibly have no idea what your talking about.

Oh that's the current world political system isn't it. It works well don't it.

I don't know, the voting booths could come back. They could put an alert in on the messaging system so everyone knows to vote. I think the real reason there are no vote booths is that MA know what the people want and disagree already ;)

  20. MindStar9

    MindStar9 Floating in Space

Plain and simple ... there are too many variables that the intelligent and critically-thinking community are bringing to light that promotes thought-provoking moments that in turn promotes more speculation.

I think when MindArk openly talks about "future plans" without much information, the natural course of action within the community is to digest it to the level of what they think is meant, and then dissect it with any number of possibilities that produce why it might work ... or not.

I think MindArk pays attention to this process, and based on the results, might just go back to the drawing board, which in turn will delay their originally-designed project.

Then again, the community process might instill a bit of apprehension with regard to even moving forward with something, and (as we have seen happen historically), we end up without the intended idea because they are now too busy developing the next best thing that will generate quick revenue.
