MindArk: Bamboo - Could this be the new marketing MindArk refered to?

MindArk mentioned that the money raised through the Calypso sale would be used for marketing purposes. Imagine my surprise coming across this article today:

  2. "We think our players can and will market us better than anyone else through the app."

It seems like that pretty much sums up how MindArk plans to market Entropia... :eek (2):

Can this be put the other way round: Probably noone could market you worse than you do yourselves?

I wonder how word of mouth did work before there was Facebook...

  4. I laughed at that line, I guess they don't mind bad press.

    Thanks for the information David.

Once you have learned something about PR you might want to consider to post here too, where the thread has been up 3 hours earlier and has 135% of the views of the place where you posted it. Good luck!

"Bamboo utilizes all the traditional game mechanics that most game companies have already honed, including badges, leader boards, in-game events, forums, add-a-friend programs, screenshot contests, couponing, sweepstakes and combinations. These assets can now be repurposed by Bamboo through social media outlets as wall posts, polls, in-mails, tweets, check-ins and even competitive and cooperative awards. "

This doesn't sound impressive/interesting at all. MA could have done this before with their underused FB group. The facebook connect they have is good though but been running for a while now... I just don't see this as making a major impact

Thanks for the information Bjorn. Once you realize which people are truly supporting MA's business and how to treat them decently you might want to consider posting such information here too.

Looks like the "sell you friends for a gimmick" method.

Been afraid of recommending something like EU to your friends yet? Let this shiny item wash away your shame.

I introduced one friend to PE long before it became EU. That friend quit playing years ago, on account of a severe lack of gameplay and PE simply being far too expensive and offering too little for the cost.

I tried a few others on a very sporadic basis, but the last time I actually recommended anyone to check it out was years ago. And no amount of shiny items would change that. The one thing that could accomplish that would be making the game less expensive, and more fun.

RAZER Custom title ... uh ...

Yep same goes for me, the people I showed the game to a long time ago just think it is boring

I'm one of those who don't dare to recommend EU to friends. I know what games they play respectively that they play GAMES.

I thought a lot would change with EU switching to CE2 and EU would become something to recommend. Of course a lot has changed since switching to CE2 but after almost 4.5 years of development (2007 25 July: Virtual World Entropia Universe Selects State-of-the-Art CryENGINE2(R) to Create the Future) I think it's still not worth recommending and far away from being "state-of-the-art" in any way.

EU is still very peculiar niche product. Interesting but little entertaining, still too expensive, still too much gambling.

What I think absolutely sucks is the fact that certain efforts do not get not rewared but penalized. Fx going about a really hard mob considering your level, maybe with a few soc mates, using elaborated teamwork, die a few times but in the end killing it. Mastering those challenges does mean you pay a lot. You pay less following the recommendation to "play at your level" which means over and over again dully clicking the same bunch of pixels until you reach certain level allowing you to click another bunch of pixels.

As long as this doesn't change EU is rather not a game you can play, it's rather a 'game' you 'configure'. And imo not worth recommending to anyone.

Not sure what to think about this.
I never had a facebook account till I created one for narfi, and everyone on his friendlist is directly from Entropia so no real life contacts.
It will be interesting to see how it would work for people who do put out alot of effort such as here on EP or any of the other individuals doing their own projects on the internet to promote the game on their own.

    AxeMurderer
    Sorven
    Mayjor
mastermesh(not sure if that could be considered promotional or bashing)
    my blog
    etc...
Im sure there are more those are just the ones that are on the tip of my tounge.

Regardless of that, it will still be nice to see active promotion, and the idea that they will do their own campaign as soon as before Christmas is really exciting.

ps. I live in a remote area with almost no rl computer age contacts, but I did get two co-workers to try out EU this year.
The first got so addicted so fast that he had to stop for the sake of his family. (just had a baby)
And the other had a ton of fun but 12hr work days got to him and he had to stop for the sake of sleep.

I have to disagree with this.
The properly sized team of low level low mu high eco guns without armor can hunt difficult mobs much cheaper than someone geared up with the bigger armor and bigger guns. (not counting the high end bajillion dollar super guns + faps, which will always be more eco in the right hands)

Its just about doing the research and comparing the teams dps and defense costs.

Lets just take one example. (there are others)
    Malcruentor
We will call the average hp on them 2650 which falls between mature and old. (a decent average for south of Oshira)
They don't regen fast, so we don't need to worry about that.

We will take someone with Martial SGA + 5B plates and an Apis(L) + Dante gun and calling that our 'mid-lvl' player.
(the sga is expensive, but using it instead of (L) just so we dont worry about the mu for the sample)
And we will take a group of 6 'noob' friends who always play together in a team.

Cost for Mr. Martial to kill the beast,
    Apis+Dante+Ammo = 9.275ped
Armor+Plate Decay (assuming he gets hit 3 times w/ no fapping during the fight) = 0.375ped
Herb box decay to heal the 180hp lost = 0.18ped (Mr. Martial is eco minded and patient)
    Total = 9.83ped

Cost for the 6 friends using tactics, no armor and M1a(L)+A102 amps,
    m1a+A102+ammo = 9.144ped (7% more eco than Mr.Martial)

Cost for the 6 friends using tactics, no armor and Riker UL1(L)+A103 amps,
    UL1+A103+ammo = 9.017ped (8.3% more eco than Mr. Martial)

If playing on a decent connection the team of 6 can successfully hunt with out taking a hit.
(I've lead teams doing it and even with a really bad connection still did fairly well)

Lets suppose that 1-2 people from the team die each time, they can spend the <20pec of fuel(I have no idea of actual costs) and fly back to the team together in one vehicle.

time to kill for each setup,
    Mr Martial = 44.5 seconds
    M1a Team = 56.77 seconds
    UL2 Team = 28.66 seconds

Even with the slower kill speed for the M1a team, I dont think that they regenerate enough to end up being more expensive than Mr. Martial.

IMO this team will have more fun, be able to play with strategy, and has the opportunity to just as much or more markup in loot than Mr. Martial for the same amount of ped.

There are other mobs where other setups and strategies come into play, but its just a matter of looking for them and running the numbers.
