That's great :) It was one of many crazy ideas, that one day we could somehow build these things we call "lovesticks" and send them to selected game creators to honor their work. Just like Oscars ;) I'd say let's do a prototype (and of course I'll pay the bill).

Back in the 90's there was a computer games TV show called Games master. The prize was a golden joystick which was kinda cool.

In fact, now you can make your own :D

I'm a bit busy atm. Tablet stand, clockwork. But I put the stick into the pipeline.

Today I've learned to make carvings in Rhino:

It's a good idea to give rewards to folks who did a good job and didn't get an Oscar yet ;-)

Mail sent to Blancpain if I'm allowed to name my model "Blancpain" and use the design for some further artwork.

Well, tablet stand runs pretty good so far, clockwork is on it's design way ... lot of things to do. Meanwhile I can start printing the Lovestick. Please give me an imagination of the size. 80 x 100 mm?
I will make a modelkit with five parts as you asked for.

  8. It is odd, but for years i have been looking for some sort of gear simulator. I've found a lot of sites as this, but nothing that really could be used for my fun of just playing around with gears. :)

Well, the tricky part with normal gears are the involutes. That and the ability to export the results as DXF was the reason for me to use it. My benefit was to avoid a lot of work.

Looks good but is not for free. Additional the program I use can generate different forms of gear wich is important for me:

Beside of this it is probably a nice tool to play around.

  12. Are you able to build and then run it?

    (oops missed this)

Yes, of course you really don't need a simulator if you have a rl 3d printer which come to think about it would be more fun to build and see in RL what it's doing.

I use it free.... in fact can't find way to pay even

Export as DXF causes costs ;-) $2 for a single export if I remember right. That means I had to pay something like $30 for all my trys with the clockwork.

Well, the DXF data from that program are really weak. So it won't in a good way in real life. But my clockwork shall be just a small piece of art. Not functional. It just should look like it would be ...

What we really need is a mu-fu, a device that creates a 3D scan of an object and optionally prints it :) Of course not ideal for objects that don't exist in reality such as the lovestick but still could be helpful.

  17. Well, little over 40 years ago when the first sit down bikes came out I had an idea for a new type of man powered helicopter which I needed to play with gears to see if it was possible. Just last month or so a group just got around to my idea for a collage project. What was funny is as I was watching their video with them talking about issues I was talking back to them how my idea could fix it. :)

Awww I didn't realise that. I think when I used it I tried exporting as some sorta vector 2D design which I actually found I could load into the first 3d package I was playing with (FreeCAD iirc) it was a disaster. Went sooooo slow as to be utterly unusable.

I wonder if I could try similar with Fusion, however I think Fusion actually has a gear tool or someone has made one that might be free (or cheap)

Sounds like you'd need to push really really hard....

Well, you asked me instead of a mu-fu ;-)
