EU-experience with PS VR?

I have serious problems with Sony regarding PS VR devkit and Unity. Dunno how to transfer a 3d model to my PS4 Pro. And my PC-version of Unity doesn't offer PS VR. I will call Sony Germany tomorrow.

Well, it sounds a bit insane or at least unexpected. I called Sony support today and asked for a simple solution to bring my own 3d-content to the PS4 and use it with the PS VR. I'm not sure if what I've heard is definitely the truth. The support told me, that I have to publish my content via PlayStation Store. There is allegedly no other way. I can't believe that this is true. But if so I don't understand Sony's policy.

Sure, I could try it this way and offer the product for free. But what if I make content wich I don't want to share with others? For example a flat with a picture of my naked wife at the wall in the living room? Or I could place two lesbian women having sex together in the sleeping room with animations from Poser. I'm pretty sure, Sony would ban me from the PlayStation Store immediately.

It seems, I have to plug the VR-device into my desktop PC to be able to use it. Too sad.

LOL! "F*ck Sony" is one point of the story. The other point is, that the PS4 Pro has more power than my PC regarding such undertakings with VR. So my first hope is that Sony will enable it for private purpose soon. Nevertheless I will do some tests during the next weeks if it works on my PC. I'm really not interested in Steam. Vice versa. But I will check it. But it is the ability to use existing games only with the PSVR if I understand it right. That's not really what I want. I want to walk through buildings/scenes I made by myself.

Well, the article about PSVR at a PC is more than a year old. Hopefully we can get way more today.

Off to Skyrim ... see you later!

Not to speak of your wife and a much more severe ban ;)

But there is a platform where you can do all these things, keep them private or publish as you wish. People do exactly that and with precisely the same intent for years in Second Life. Creating a room with a picture on the wall is a minute's exercise with built-in tools. I'm not on top of latest developments with VR headsets there, but since there are open-source spin-offs of the client, anything is possible. Mentioned it before around here and somehow it was dismissed, don't fully understand why.

Yeah, I've heard two or three things about SL. My point is to test my own creations comming from my CAD programs or from 3DS Max or even from customer data. Starting at a low level - kinda prototype - and improving them step by step with textures, expandings and functionality. I don't want to make a brothel or such. The two lesbian women were just an example. In fact I want to run serious projects with main focus on architectural or industrial enviroment. I give you a serious example of what would not be possible. Imagine a customer asks me to make a version of his project of a house or an industrial facility to test how it feels in VR. First I had to do is to make a non-disclosure agreement with him. PlayStation Store would be a no-go in this case.

Another idea for PS Store would be indeed a private section wich is hidden from public. That should be easy to realize for Sony.

I see, yes for a pro tool it doesn't quite fit the bill. But there must be others in the same situation, just like with coders. Wondering that there aren't existing solutions, or are they all horribly expensive? Brainstorming off the top of my head, for software which needs to be presented in its environment you could e.g. use VirtualBox, which is free. You could deliver a self-contained demo in one encrypted file to a client, if they have the hardware to run it. 3D in Vbox is demanding but if it doesn't need the utmost edge of performance, I imagine this could work for products of your type, too.

What does it cost to get a devkit for a PS4 then?

  8. I think he is talking about the officially available tools, accessable for everyone ?

A "devkit" is usually only available for real companies or indy game developers.
SONY does lend it as well (for free) but I think its was about 2000$ back in the days to aquire one.

You can check forums like assemblergames.com or ebay for devkits of any kind of console.

Or in short, I dont think Jamira has a (real) devkit for the PS4...does he ? :O

I own the PS4 Pro and the PSVR only. I tested "TinusPSVR" and "SteamVR" lately for four hours. I saw "Skyrim Special Edition" nearly in VR. But it was all shifted. No fun. It doesn't work correctly at my computer. All in all probably Win10 is too stupid to handle two or three displays

How ever, I will unplug the PSVR from my PC, lean back and wait until world becomes better. I don't need a dev kit. I just want to watch my own 3d-content in VR. Not a game, no commercial purpose. Just private and for fun.

I play "Horizon Zero Dawn" sice a few days. That's fun. Better than "Assassin's Creed Origin". At least regarding tension and story.

How ever. What I've learned from the last three weeks is: Out there in the world are several interesting and exciting things. No need for me to lament EU anymore. To say it clear: EU is a really old game. Regarding graphics it is kinda middle age. It doesn't have impressive landscapes, gameplay, story or community. It's just ... uhhhhm ... grinding and exploiting.

I plugged the PSVR to my PS4 again, enjoyed one hour of Skyrim VR with no further costs. Although there is a lot of cables, I have to admit - lol. But the major benefit for me came from "Horizon Zero Dawn". I paid something like 15 Euro for two hours "Star Wars VIII" at cinema and ~50 Euro for a week (so far) for "Horizon Zero Dawn Complete Edition" in UHD. And Star Wars is really lame compared to Horizon.

"Horizon Zero Dawn" did look nice. I saw it on a demo reel on a large 4k TV at EGX last year they'd set up with sofas. It was nice looking. Never played it though.

Well, I didn't play very much video games so far and Skyrim with all the mods and now in VR is still my reference. I played Skyrim estimated three times in different setups thanks to 2500 mods. And I still play it. Horizon is a complete different one. The main thing is the breathtaking, long and tension story. If you know the end it's simply done. No need to run it again. No chance to play it in a different way. But it's absolutely worth it! It's not perfect but still impressive.

I have to admit, that I prefer a good story against action. And I play Horizon in "Story-mode" only. My hero Aloy kills each enemy in a few seconds. Alas, I enjoy it. Tomorrow I will start the DLC "Frozen Wild". They told me it'll come with a new story line. Let's see.

Similar. I have a game, Remember Me. It has a sorta "less combat - I care mainly for story" mode. I've not really played the game yet much but was considering a restart with this mode on. I'm all about the story.

Yep, the DLC "Frozen Wild" for "Horizon Zero Dawn" could become the stuff for season IV of a Zero Dawn TV-series. LOL!

I'm pretty sure I will try out "Rise of the Tomb Raider" soon as well. Man, Tomb Raider was a blast way back in 1996 at DOS! More than 20 years ago meahnwhile. Rise of the TR is the 11th part of the series including two movies with Angelina Jolie. A significant longer lasting game than Project Entropia. Reason enough to get back to it.

And finally I decided: I don't need EU in VR. This world isn't interesting enough compared to all the other worlds in 2D UHD and 3D VR I saw meanwhile. It's simply to ... ehrm ... simple. Lame even. Just bury it.

I stupidly missed out on the steam sale for RotTR. But honestly, I have too many games now, high chance I wouldn't get to it by next Christmases Steam Sale anyhow where it will likely be as cheap if not cheaper. I've not finished Tomb Raider 2013 yet anyhow (and need to do so before the film). I sorta got stuck on a bit where I kept being shot and somehow didn't leave me feeling compelled to push past it. Repetitively watching my character getting shot was a bit of a turn off for me really.

Loving Guardian of Light though - such a fun game with a friend.

I bought Tomb Raider. Once it was a simple story ... well ... more or less no story. Just a lame construct to present the first sexy female super-hero in a 3d-game. With triangular peaked big breasts. But it was amazing at this time. The current TR is in 4k, comes with really good animations and features, with unbelievable smooth transitions to very good cut scenes. But the makers left the original concept. They put a skill-system to the game and tried to make kinda RPG from it. I played it approximately five hours meanwhile and don't love it anymore already. I'm disappointed. 60 Euro burned :-(

All in all I feel very comfortable since I left EU in early 2014 after more than nine years.
    upload_2018-2-8_0-53-9.png
That's just the balance of the last three months. Not to mention 44 months before of not paying 250 Euro = 11.000 Euro. LOL! And furthermore most of the costs of December last year were caused by hardware wich will be a good workhorse for the next years. Makes a real good feeling.

ah yes the transitions are very very good - same in 2013 one. Yeh 2013 got criticised for being too short. Never a problem for me but I can see why serial gamers don't like that sort of thing.

And DANG! I found out today that the side story "Blood Ties", wich tells a lot of the history of Lara, her parents and butler Winston, can be played in VR! It's really cool and very interesting to explore Croft Manor in VR. So the 60 Euro arn't completely burned. Okay, it's a small DLC, two or three hours gameplay. But it's amazing.

I played this DLC as flat version before. This flat version, even in 4k and in my preferred 3rd-person-view, is the looser of this day. The fuzzy VR version is a way better experience.
