WOW! What a huge world! Incredible landscapes and details. Massive population in towns. Some details adapted to Skyrim: like the compass and the skill system. Free choice of what you want to be. Free handling of Quests. I bought it. And I was close to buy a PS4 Pro as well to play it at my 65" TV at 4k. I think this world deserves it!

Alas, after six hours I still miss the moment when the story drags me inside. I've killed some enemies, collected some items and had to learn that I killed my own son by accident in the past by fault of someone else. My mission is revenge. Okay, pretty lame. I'm bored after these six hours already.

When I played Skyrim the very first time, I was breathless after the first half hour and this feeling remained during the full main story. One week at last.

I am afraid, I will buy this PS4 Pro anyway. Just to enjoy the ancient egypt landscapes, pyramids and towns. Ubisoft put a lot of effort into it. To enjoy this I have to suck the lame story ...

  3. Are there any descent assassin versions of it on Android? Don't have a ps but am wanting to try it on Google TV. Also, same question for skyrim?

Sorry, I have no clue what "Google TV" is. At least my 4k-SONY TV runs on Android.

Alea iacta est ... I will buy a PS4 Pro, PS4 VR, Assassin's Creed Origins for PS4 and Skyrim VR for PS4 VR at Wednesday. 875 Euro. Looks like it's worth it.

    WOW!

Folks, I was IN Skyrim! With my new Playstation VR. The very first minutes I sat at the couch with open mouth, breathless, speachless. The only word I could say was "WOW!" and "WOW!" again. I can assure you the dragons are really, really huge. Same with giant Frostbite Spiders.

I was a bit sceptical how good it would work before. But it is impressive. Okay it is fuzzy and sometimes you can see some kind of grid in the picture. Additional the game is from 2011 and even improved textures from Skyrim Special Edition doesn't look very good. But you are IN this world, can look around and see all this mighty mountains. Everything looks bigger.

So poor Bayek from Assassin's Creed Origins must wait for a long time I'm afraid. And my wife will be pissed because the TV doesn't belong to her allone.

  6. My thoughts exactly. Was underwhelmed after 6 hours or so as well. Graphics are nice but the story is meh. Am already over 90 hours in because the completist is me demands that. And 'only' halfway.

Hope you enjoy the VR with others games as well .. cheers

I'm pretty sure I will! Mail to NASA already sent to make their "Mission ISS" available for other VR devices than Oculus too.

    It's really crazy.

Wife came back yesterday and tried out the PS VR. She got motion sickness imediately and started to perspire under the headset. She was impressed as well but couldn't stand it for more than 15 minutes. After this experiment she needed one hour to overcome her sickness. I'm afraid she will never ever try it again after this bad experience. What a pity!

Fortunately I have zero motion sickness and I don't sweat. I can play for hours with this wonderful device. I have other problems. Today I went back to Assassin's Creed Origins. This game is another breathtaking issue. Ancient Egypt in 4k at a 65" screen! But I play computer games since more than 30 years with keyboard and joystick or mouse. That's half of my life - lol! I'm absolutely noob with a controller for console games. This will strech the training phase to a long period. But it's okay. ACO is a really good and tempting game.

As a side note: Entropia Universe for VR would be a nice move. Didn't MA think about it already? Bethesda just ported their old Skyrim 1:1 to VR. And I like it. I would like EU VR as well.

P.S. Another mail sent to SpaceX to offer their Mars project in VR.

  9. It really would. Just a bit worried it might require top of the line graphics cards. And I know a lot of people who are just playing on laptops with safe settings :D

XBOX One X for AC:O? On a screen with HDR enabled? Simply gorgeous.

Keep playing .. 100hrs in now on AC:O .. only at 60% .. killed all 4 Elephants and looking forward to endgame.

    Cheers Medjar!

    Cheers!
I had some six hours today. Still level 9 :( But I learn slowly to press the right push buttons and found out finally how to change equipment - lol! Will go to Alexandria tomorrow to meet Aya.

Regarding EU VR. As mentioned, Bethesda just ported Skyrim, the original game, as it was to PS VR. Although they had a PS version already. No user of a laptop will try to run a VR device I think. But everyone with a PS4 or PS4 Pro could do it. I have no clue how much effort it requires to do this. But MA would be within a small group of pioneers. If they launch it within 2018. A small time frame, allowedly. But a great chance as well. 2019 would be too late.

    Aaaaand YESSS!

Ubisoft already started to bring ACO to VR. At a first step for Ubisoft Center in Montreal only. But hey, after Star Trek Bridge Crew and other games it would be stupid to not offer ACO VR to the public. Today I arrived in Alexandria. It is simply overwhelming. Even on a flat screen. I want it for my PS VR too!

Glad you liked it!! Yeh the scale of things is one of the best bits of VR. The asteroids in Elite, even the hangars in Entropia are frikin' massive!

    dfffffefrd.jpg ffreled.jpg wow hangars are big!.jpg

MA's middle name is "too late". There is NO WAY Entropia VR will be product ready this year. For starters all the UI stuff would need re-doing. Look at how long it took them to get it to where it currently is (and that was doing a little bit at a time). Look at my video posted in the new games thread about the sort of considerations one needs to make/implement for combating motion sickness. That's before we get into frame rate and UI/visibility of text etc. There are a bunch of other weird VR things too, like that the old tricks don't work (bump mapping etc.) to create the illusion of 3D detail so things can inevitably look a whole lot flatter in VR than they did on a flat screen.

Alas sad to hear about Kristen's experience. Indeed this was very similar to mine when I was experimenting with Unity and VR and got the motion "wrong". I got hot, started to sweat and then had to take a half hour walk outside to clear the nausea.

Puhhh! Got ESO Gold yesterday at noon. Since then PS is downloading the update 1.30. They announced 10 hours for 55 GB. And they mean it. Okay, we used Netflix and Amazon Video during this time. And we use WLAN only for TV and PS. But hey, it is a 100 MBit cable connection. Even WLAN should work better. Sony is really lame at this point.

    I should install a 15 meter LAN-cable ...

You should do that cable - always cable when it is your own place.

In other VR news, I set the Rift up again last night. I can't remember if this is the first time since I had a better graphics card or not. Ran into a bunch of difficulties getting it working. First because I forgot how it works (thought I could skip on the USB cable thinking it only powered the aux USB on the headset - no) then had issues with it wanting to update the driver. This is a problem for me as I had to use an old driver to get past the CPU check. I had this "ok" button I couldn't click on though as it needed a controller set up. In the end I accidentally clicked "ok to update" button when trying to config a controller and then it wouldn't work at all (just screen saying you must update) till I did. So I had to risk it but thankfully it paid off and continued to work.

I think the CPU check must only be on the software either that or they got rid of it. I get a warning every time I load that I'm basically taking the piss with my rig but that is fine. I can handle a warning, it's people telling me that I'm not allowed compromised performance that gets my goat.

Anyhow things were not great after this. I still seem to be having issues with Steam VR Home. It seems to run out of ram even though only using half available (I have 6GB). That said, I did manage to get it work a few times by... well tbh not sure, sorta going in and out of tutorials or other software related to steam VR.

When it worked though I liked the steam VR Home - the room and patio with mountain view were lovely. I actually went into "sit back and look at the view" mode for a while as I contemplated if I could make a variable fan to simulate the the breeze that was crying out to be there.

Come to think of it... if you could make something that can freely move round your head, you could keep a breeze coming from a fixed direction even as you look around... that might be kinda cool.... I wonder if anyone has done that (I've seen fixed fans but never a moving one).

Anyhow back to the story. In the end I worked out I could launch steam games for VR without first invoking SteamVR - I think I'd kinda broken things at the point I tried this but I did manage to get SubLevelZero running. It was pretty sweet being able to look around and I was surprised I didn't seem to be having any sickness in the comfort simulator. I tried the different tunnel vision/fixed point of reference modes and think I've concluded that maybe the lowest setting helps a little but anything else I found to be trading potential discomfort for certain disorientation. I think because I'd broken things a bit, the lateral tracking on the rift wasn't working either so I need to test again on a fresh boot. TBH if I did feel any nausia, it was more likely due to that being on the fritz than the viewing area. I do seem to remember introducing the lateral tracking was the biggest anti nausia aid.

Aside from that everything seemed to work well (when it worked) and the frame rate seemed absolutely fine. I checked inMindVR again (my sorta "Hello World" for commercial VR games - it's free - quick and awesome - note inCellVR has nausia issues and costs the mullah). I saw there are some freebies on Occulus store now that might be worth checking out.

Next thing to try might be, as I said, a clean boot for SubLevelZero and another look at LeapMotion VR. I got a powered USB cable a year ago (so we could try it without having to get a crick in our necks) and have yet to get round to a 2nd go... argh such is my life. I love my job but miss my nerd time.

PS Jamira if this VR talk is too far OT I'm happy to start a VR thread.

Nonono ... it's welcome. I thought about EVE VR. But hey, it's the battle mode only. Shoot and fight. Nothing I would pay for. Too sad.

As mentioned I would need a 15 m cable and had to install it in a special way to make it "invisible" in our living room. Compared with this I can live with 10 hours doenload.

Well, 10 hours of download ESO. But after this a message popped up: "To play a multiplayer-game you must be member of PS plus." 5 Euro per month. Ehhhrm ... what? I bought a game for PS4 wich I run at my Windows-PC already for years and have to pay 5 Euro per month to run it at PS4? Are these guys at Sony a little bit stupid? Well, it was late Saturday evening. Zenimax/Bethesda Germany were offline. Same with Sony Germany. At least I could talk to a kind woman at Amazon. She ensured me that I can give the game back if we don't find a solution. Finally I saw the hint to PS+ membership as the very last sentence at Amazon description. My fault ***roll eyes***

    Back to ACO.
I'm at level 20 meanwhile. Wich means something like 25 % of level 40, wich is the max level. Summary:
Impressive at a 65" TV in 4k but boring. Really boring. Too sad! Ubisoft missed the chance to tell an exciting story and drag the player into it. Like Skyrim did in 2012.
I still enjoy the great performance of ACO. But slowly I miss the motivation to continue ...

Well I solved my VR lateral movement problem. Turned out the camera had stopped working for some unknown reason. I re-plugged it and all was fine. Much better. There was a bar above my head in the cabin that was making it difficult to look up when I couldn't shift to one side. Once I could move my head to look around properly this was much better. Something very cool about apparently rolling up at a dead end, only to look up and see a long vertical tunnel above you then navigate upwards while looking up.

Only apparent issue I still have (that I was expecting) is that there seems to be a slight oversight on the programmer's part that I don't seem to be able to remap keys to control the inventory. Switching and crafting gear is a fairly important part of the game play and needing to reach for the keyboard isn't easy when blindfolded. It works with WASD, arrow keys and a controller but with my dual stick setup I don't seem to be able to use the inventory. So think I'll have to knock something up to map the hat to WASD or something then it should be ok.

That sucks about a subscription for multiplayer. I think that warrants a solid NO.

I'd love if there'd be a headset with some force-feed thingymajingy in it, and the fans Wistrel mentioned. Imagine feeling the sea breeze. Add some kind of scent mixing to it, and you can literally smell the game. The force-feedback could be awesome for when you bump your head, etc. Add a wearable force feedback vest for FPS games, so you'll actually feel when you get hit in specific spots. Combine it with a sort of Omni, or a treadmill so I can generate all the electricity to power up my game.

I WANT THIS NOW AND FOR FREE BECAUSE I JUST INVENTED THIS! ELON MUSK, ARE YOU PAYING ATTENTION?

At one point you would have to buy a monthly 3-days-a-week ticket in a fitness studio to train your neck muscles. Just to wear the wight of all this addons :-)

I have some sort of good news about these requests notadmin:

    - people have defo attached USB fans to the DK2, sure I saw that but to my recollection they didn't move. They might have been speed/intensity controlled though
    - Someone DID make a VR nose mask add on that creates smells. I even saw it at EGX I think... (unless my memory playing tricks) but I think there was a massive queue to try it out.
    - The force feedback vest that makes you feel when you get shot was created a while ago and featured on BBC's Click program. Spencer Kelly was trying it out if I remember right.

    Bad news is:

    - not sure how far to market the vest or nose mask got
    - Elon Musk has enough on his plate already and rumour has it that Tesla will run out of doe in August too...

    Ah some links:
http://nosulusrift.ubisoft.com/?lang=en-GB#!/introduction - think this is the one I saw at EGX
http://www.korfx.com/products - wasn't the one I saw on TV (I don't think - could be wrong), seem to remember that had a specific API rather than guessing based on sounds
