What I really want is to enjoy a few years without afflictions, summers like the last one starting at April and resting until September, really increasing AI for entertainment, knowledge and design software. And these unpayable days at the loggia with some wine, good music and talks and running crazy projects. Kinda Bohemian Rhapsodie. Probably it'll become even better this year: weather prognosis tells sunshine and 17°C for next weekend. Middle of February! I'll just enjoy it and give a shit of climate issues. As old Donald Trump posted: We need global warming to defeat the north from heavy cold ;-)

    Long road to go!
"Alexa, play Minority Report." "That's what I've found:"

"Alexa, play the movie Minority Report." "That's what I've found:"

    ...

    ???
Nothing? Okay, beside the movie there was a TV series. Both are availible at Amazon Prime. But Alexa isn't able to describe these offers. Not to speak about my better description "the movie" (in German: "den Film"). I felt a bit like Will Smith talking to Sophia ;-)

Frankly I would really like to talk about moral and conditioning to an AI. But hey, moral is just a transcendent human construct. It is automatically out of everything some AI can understand or learn. I currently read "Brave New World" again. This is a helpful reading regarding of what societies are driven by.

For now it would be good to be able to have a halfway normal talk about simple things.
"Alexa, let's talk." "I talk all the time."
    ???
No, Alexa doesn't talk all the time. It's impossible to talk to her. But that's what I would appreciate. Jeff Bezos should buy IBM ... just my four cigarettes.

I think wanting to "talk with an AI" is a fundamentally flawed premise since it can't ever be anything other than the illusion of talk. It all began with Eliza many years ago, and as simple as it was, it had people stunned already back then. Modern sophistication can amplify that but still not solve the basic issue. Which is that these things don't have consciousness, they only ever can try to simulate the behaviour of one. We don't understand consciousness, we don't even have a theory of it yet. Therefore we can't build one.

This doesn't mean a machine can't be trained to parse language and find resonating clauses in a body of stored experiences. The above are all impressive examples of that and it only gets better. This leads without intermediate directly to the moral topics, it really only depends on what input it is fed. In aforementioned debate, it defended the leftist-socialist stance of its creators. The human debater stood for a more conservative, or even libertarian view which the machine creators eschewed. Imagine, what would an AI-driven institutionalized judge be like, which was founded on Sharia law, the Quran and Hadiths? We know already that a significant portion of the world can and will go this route as soon as it is given the technical means.

  6. No offence San but I found your above post a little AI-ish. ;)

    Ironically.

Not at all ;) That's probably because of its inevitability. It's useless to even try and soften the blow.

I see this under another aspect. I doubt a machine/software needs consciousness to be able to talk to humans in a considerable way. Even we humans don't talk exclusively about philosophy, ethics, politics and religions and such.

Imagine I speak to another engineer about a technical issue. All we need is knowledge of mechanics and kinematics, knowledge of materials and manufacturing processes and additional we should know a few mathematical formulas. With this we can talk about a technical issue. If we miss some knowledge we can ask others, read books or surf for it in internet. Even if we are not able to solve the problem we can invite others to join our discussion and help to find a solution (build a network). My idea is, that a talk like this should be able with an AI as well. AI for a special theme, mayby for several themes (technical and medical knowledge to build equipment for healthcare). By combining different possibilities an AI should be able to find other solutions than me, probably something completely new.

A comparable talk about artworks won't be that easy or even impossible. Because art isn't describable without ethics, emotions and a few other aspects of human life. What exactly is "beautiful" or "terrible"? Terminator 2 asks young John Connor: "Why do you men weep?" "Well, when it hurts." John, a human, isn't able to explain it in a good way. How should a machine be able to understand it?

So, basically I see opportunities at all sectors that deal with clearly describable knowledge and methods. AI should be able to learn. That's a very important aspect. Just to avoid to make mistakes over and over again. AI should be able to accept other opinions as long as a final solution isn't found yet.

Hey, I sat in my dream MX5 today and had some races already in VR with headphones. Nice. You can look around and above wich isn't possible in normal mode. At the other hand the VR experiance is lame compared to Skyrim VR. Especially because I love it to drive my old MX5 in RL at sunny days with 50-80 km/h only instead of racings with 120-180 km/h ;-) I will play Gran Turismo occasionally. But it's not really one of my favorite games.

Damn, sorry... it's broken in the meantime. I just took it from my bookmarks since I haven't used it in a while for it's data intensive. Should have checked before posting. It depends on the Google Earth plugin which was discontinued. Sad... it was a nice tool which connected several online services to create an impression of virtual road travelling along a calculated route, going through all the StreetView images in film-like succession.
