We went to Holland for a funeral last week. I didn't know Peter's uncle that well - only met him a few times. An old, small, skinny person, who talked very laud caursed by a poor hearing. He was an artist - a marvellous painter - painting beautiful landscape pictures in melancholy colors. Some of his paintings are absolutely stunning. I am somehow sad, that I never got to know him better - because despite his old age, angriness on his old days etc. I feel we had a lot in common. We where sitting in the church, with Hans' picture in front, flowers and a lot of people, who showed up to give Hans a last honour. The church looked beautiful and suddenly Elvira Madigan was playing over the speakers. I use to play Elvira Madigan on my moms old piano. I sold it years back and I don't think I ever regret anything in my life, but I do regret that! It was a white pianette and it was the first thing my mom bought from her first monthly salery. I played on it every single day from I was 3-4 years old untill I reached 25. It was my shelter and my mother and father, and everytime life was doing me wrong, I sat there and played Bethoven, Strauss, Stravinsky and a lot of other artists. We where sitting in the church, and I was dragged back to my childhood when suddenly the Moonshine Sonata was beautifully playing - it's a stunning piece of Piano music ... and one of my favorite to play when I was 14... After the ceremony we went for coffee, soup and bread, as it is tradition in Holland. We where about to leave when I saw a white piano, exactly like the one my mother had, standing in the lobby. It was for sale. It was a pianette and could as well have been my moms. The daughter of Hans came out to say goodbye and saw us standing there, starring at the piano - me being absolutely stunned, because an hour ago I was dragged through a lot of childhood memories because of my mothers piano. Hans' daughter then told us, that she had an old piano (pianette) which wasn't in use and we where welcome to have that if we liked. I was thrilled. We went to look at it - a beautiful pianette in dark old wood. Afterwards we where told, that it has been Hans' and that he used to play on it years back ... Coincidence? You tell me ... Anyway, on our way in the car to Holland I had fun drawing a little again. It wasn't the easiest as you can imagine, but I had so many hours 'left over', that I figured it would be a good time (now I'm complaining about lack of time lol). So I drew this little guy ... He's really not the best thing I've ever made, actually a lot of things are quite bad about him (I had no eraser lol) BUT he's a start. I wanted to polish him up and redraw him on the pc when I came home, but for some reason my bamboo Pen was broke :( So I had to order a new one online. It's going to be a little project, because I don't have much time, as Jack Bauer would have said it - but the plan is: I give each week day a special 'task' day. For example: Monday: A project, I'm working on, which requires Blender. Tuesday: Forum Work. Wednessday: Scouting day for Amanda, but will be my weekly drawing day - the same with Sunday (and I can draw with Amanda). Rest of the days are Forum days, I guess lol. I work every day - and I'm not home and done with the house tasks untill around 19.00, after making diner, making sure Amanda made her homework, got to bed etc. I need to head bed in a proper time. So I will have around 2 hours every evening for what I'm doing. That includes working on Entropia Times Magazine ... OH, and when I get the piano, of course, I will have a piano evening too Dammit lol ... I thought making a plan would make it easier - now, when I look at it, it seems more stressfull hahaha :)
Hi! lykke :) yes! funerales do put things into perspective but! to your drawing i dont want to come across as critical/arrogant but i think you need to work on your human anatomy* again i find drawing anything easy though for some people especially anatomy can be hard also! building a 3d animated model of a concept that is not anatomically correct within your 3d program would turn out to be very problematic when it comes to setting the bones for animation ect. again im happy to help you with your art ect! Anyway here are just a few drawings that i did! they are just some basic sketches character concepts. i really draw all the time both for work and just because i feel like being creative i guess? i once had a page with a lot of my work posted on it"" but i just get to busy so was unable to keep maintaining the site. but will get back to setting it up again at a later date. Hey :) First of all - do not be afraid of being critical. I can really take critisism when it's constructive - which it always is, if I can learn something from it :) I have to work a LOT with the anatomy. I bought a few books - but drawing like this is far from the croquis I use to practice when I was very young. I haven't drawn like that for .. *cough*21*cough* years and a lot of things happened since then. Your drawings are beautiful and I would love to see more of those. I will also try and see if I can find tutorials online (as I already bought books about anatomy - but haven't had time really to dig myself into it). I'm lazy, you see, and this guy was easy drawn in the car with the little one trying to do me after hahaha - i didnt even bother counting his ribs and muscles to see if they fit (let's just say; He's an alien ... not having a real human anatomi lol) If you know of any good tutorials - or if you make any, let me know :) I will keep you updated here with my own sketches and (hopefully) progress ^^ Thanks a bunch! I really appriciate you taking the time!
thanks! i guess i could upload some more drawings/models ect. for you at some point in the future. Well i made a point in one of your other blogs regarding learning to draw* you see for me when i draw i dont apply any type of techniques really! i actually dont really think about drawing like that"" i get a creative insight and put pen to paper and bang!! pop!! whizz!! the picture just fowls out. so i never learnt to draw its just something i can do :) but i did have to learn how to build 3d models and environments but thats another story .. As for tutorials ! i think you should look at getting poser! its is a little costly but if you are serious about improving your art* you would benefit from it as you can pose human/other models into any position and it would fuction like setting in a life drawing class i guees! and as for the help i could provide over this format if you draw something i could make an assessment of it and give you advice as to how i think it could be improved apon? And again! check out google sketchup! Poser - Complete 3D figure Design and Animation Google SketchUp
Thanks again :) I'm not sure what Poser is - is it another 3D programe like Blender, 3D maxer etc.? Or is this more simple, with already made figures you can work from?? I looked at the page - and depending on your reply, I might just download the free trial version :) As said, I've heard about SketchUp too (Kal told me about it) - I even think I tried downloading it on my old pc, but couldnt. I got a brand new beast of a PC now, and will definitely try again :D
Yes! poser is good to go! has ready to pose figures props and bucket loads of support! a very awesome program! thank me laters after you try it! it will rock your socks off! well! maybe not your socks?
oh wow downloaded sketchup ... and I already made a tiny copy of our house :O What an awesome programe! Poser is still downloading :) Looking forward to try that tomorrow!! ^^ weeeee ... and tomorrow I get the new pen for the bamboo
See! what did i tell you!! lykke! sketchup is very good for people like yourself learning to build in 3d! for the first time you can even export your models out into blender or 3ds max! and i have no doubt you will get the same benafits from poser in regards to learning to draw anatomy better! :)
I played with Sketchup 2 days ago, when I had an hour left over in the evening. We're planning on redecorating our kitchen, which is a great opportunity for me to try the programe out. So, here's my first try lol ... I have to admit I LOVE this programe. For being a first time task in it, I find it alright - next time I have the needed sparetime to play again, I will make something more advanced ^^ I also got the trial version of poser downloaded. And also opened it. But I find it very difficult to work in it just like that. Im not sure if it's because I have the trial version, but the programe seem to crash on me after a little while. Then I have to save, reboot the programe before it works? Just thinking if the real version is like that too ... then it's a lot of money for something that seems annoying. BUT when that's said, I love it! :) I LOVE just to sit and rotate the person lol, make him look this way and that way :D I also tried giving him another face, but then I crashed ... :(
Cool! nice work with Sketchup! Lykke! as for poser! i guess try contacting support? about the crash issue i dont own poser i have no use for it* though! i have friends that do :) and they can make some really awesome digital art scenes with it.......and again i think it will be really good for you in developing your art skills so dont write it off just yet!!......
