It looks... like the Entropia promo video from years ago but with better graphics.... it also looks like Second Life and a product that will never happen.

OK I know this isn't MA but still,... it so smacks of 5G hype so much the stench is palpable. 5G articles make me laugh so much. They make up such rubbish like you can video chat your doctor once you have 5G. We could do that now and infact it would be helpful. Reality being that even a pandemic has only brought about the ability to talk to a Quack on the phone and drop box style them pictures - at least in the UK anyhow. WFH is the main thing that has happened and Teams. I don't see anyone in a rush to even try something like the yesteryear of Second Shite. Not that it wouldn't be a laugh, but I don't think it will help with serious work. Would make a fun work social though especially as we all stuck at home (in the UK).

They love to say it will help with IoT too. Which is also BS cause most sensors don't need a lot of data sending and care more about low power. There are other radio techs that cater for this like LoRA. From what I can see, the most useful thing about 5G will be faster pings meaning that you may as well scrap your home internet and use radio.

Case in point I get my internet from a public wifi hotspot and it's capped at 10mbit - plenty for 1 person 99% of the time. I experimented with unlimited mobile 4G too but found, although speeds were higher they were highly changable and the ping was always lower. I had some other wierd issues with IP changing too much or something. So I'm back on "stealing Wifi" as my friends joke :D

    Anyhow.. The comedy continues...

yAAS! all the brands! Look how not rediculas we are trying to shake hands in VR while we change the colours of this poorly rendered car!

Not convinced? How about some pounding techno music to get you on board?

I'd much rather use Teams or Zoom, rather than some tool created by a bunch of incompetent trash from Sweden. And I completely ail to see a business case for meetings in virtual reality. I've attended several virtual trainings and other meetings, and not once did my mind go: "This should be done with Avatars!".

I also had a video conference call with my doctor last week. Using my regular phone. The thought of havng my avatar involved in that would be absurd.

Yeh TBH while I moaned a bit about the Doctor call. Actually the irony is for that for years I've wished I could have a phone call with my doctor rather than having to go in to the surgery in person and risk picking up freshers flu. It's just a shame that when you have a "look at this" thing you want them to see e.g. with that tool they have for looking in ears, you can't get that at the mo. Still, the sending a photo of something is actually probably preferential in some ways to a video as you can do a better job with a photo.

I would like to think that surgery still requires you to be in-person ;) Is this a case of language differences?

    Dear Patient

Your surgery has been scheduled for the 3rd of February. Please affix scalpel to the robot and lie down.

    Dr Scary

PS it is important that you maintain a stable internet connection throughout the procedure.
