I figured that since I've been trying to free up more PEDs (a lot of it used to be stuck in items with high TT, and I'm freeing those up by, well, hunting with them), I'd keep a hunting blog.

I finished my argonauts 10k, and have been spending time around Sharpclaw ridge, going after Conrnundacaudas, Atrax, and Berycled. The area has been kind to me so far, with a few globals in-between.

My current goal is to do more of the Berycled iron challenge.

    Gear:

    Gremlin armour, full TT
    Emergency FAP: 2350, Full TT
    Regular FAP: FAP-5, full TT
    Riker UL 2, 794,35 PED. Tier 3.3
    Breer P5A, 313,29 PED. Tier 6.2
    Improved EWE-21, 466,70 PED. Tier 2.1

    Ammo: 500 PED

If I get Shrapnel, and run out of ammo, I'll convert it to ammo, and keep going until I have no more shots left.

    My first run's results:

TT loot (including leftover shrapnel converted to ammo): 482.02 PED

Items: Isis LBP 1 (L), 3.29 PED TT

    Globals: 2 (27 PED, 20 PED).

    Decay:

    Armour + FAPs: 51.89 PED
    Breer: 220.05 PED
    Imp EP-21: 10.16 PED
    Breer: 0.4 PED

    Total Decay: 282.5 PED

    Result:

    Cost: 782.5 PED
    TT loot: 482.02 PED
    Net result: -300.48 PED

    Some learning points:

I ended up getting bored in-between, and abandoned the area in favor of shooting some Ambulimaxes at Nea's, and some Atroxes. That was a big mistake. I'll stick to the original hunting area from now on, and will cycle between Berycleds and Cornundacauda's from now on.

I will also not convert shrapnel to ammo, but instead stick with the original ammo purchased, as that will most likely provide a clearer overview of actual wins/losses.

Lastly, I'll take less ammo. The run was far too long, which probably added to the perceived boredom.

Not sure if it would help you or not, but I try to time my runs with loot pill durations instead of ammo/decay amount.

I haven't ever used loot pills. Not even sure where I'd get them, or what they do, to be honest.

For when I'm in-between engaging mobs. It's cheap.

you buy them from the TT for 50pec. They are good for 60 minutes and automatically loots all mobs you kill with in an x radius of your avatar.
It makes grinding much easier and works as a great timer.

Why would I use them? I loot whatever mob I kill, and then move onto the next one.

The only reason I could imagine is when I accidentally end up shooting a turp that ends up within a cluster of tougher mobs. That usually ends up with me getting dogged by a number of MOBs. I always survive. Why should I pay yet another tax for hunting?

That bit I got, it was more that I thought no one used them any more because there were maybe cheaper/faster/better options? I guess I'm just interested in what is the cheapest way to FAP these days ;) ;) ;)

I had a feeling everyone said the NI Herb box was best these days or something

I seem to be perpetually confused by people's choice of armour at low level too... it doesn't seem that CDF armour is that good an idea (although I get that it is given away in missions) compared to say Pixie.. but people still seem to wear it. I see a lot of the green and black camo ark armour too.

Oh, I have no clue, lol. I used the FAP5 because I happen to own it. Same with my Gremlin armour. I saw some good feedback on one of the chips you can get through the Mission Gallactica, but that was from the early days jusft after the chips were released, and I have no clue whether or not MA nerfed shit since.

I'm not sure I'd be willing to invest several hundred USD for such a chip, though.

It all depends on your philosophy, strategy, and what you enjoy. I wouldn't knock it till you have tried it.

Once you have tried it for a while you will see how innefecient manual looting is both in terms of time and clicking frustration.

It does depend on different variables but I cant hunt <1k hp mobs without a loot pill anymore.

Is it a tax? Yes.... Maybe...... I think one of the dev notes said tt of pills is returned in loot. Not saying I believe that, but it was said.
50 pec on a 500ped hour is 0.1% on a 1k ped hour is 0.05% as a casual player that is beyond negligible in the variance of loot.
50pec pays for itself in a single mob looted that you would have missed afk or dead.

I dont mind manual looting on 10khp mobs, only need to loot every couple minutes, but for good skill grinding 1k is a good size medium agro mobs to keep my blade swinging hard for an hour and I cant do that without an auto loot pill.

  20. If you feel that your results are improving as your loot skill is better don't worry it will pass.
If not other they will invent some new skills like mob reaction observing or similar to get you back on fun path.
