Fanbois: What am I doing wrong?

  1. I don't want you guys thinking I'm an apologist, but if the game was profitable for a lot of people, MindArk would go out of business.

Thanks McCormick. I'm glad I still have fans from that perspective. I think we'll for ever have to agree to disagree on the "is it the alien landscape of yesteryear?". I will agree that the editing is 100% uneven and many areas are still an auto generated mess. But every now and again we get something like Corinth which I really like these days. Also a lot of the old flora is still about and areas like Oshiri Hearts. I will agree that there isn't enough of it and yes MA maybe use standard assets a little more than they should. But hey they have limited resources. I would also want to see a return of the POIs (points of interest), crashed space ships and war wreckage and the like. I would gladly see a VU dedicated entirely to bringing a smattering of those back. That said there are some nice landscape features in game and the occasional fun thing like a rope bridge. Recently I discovered a sheer ridge with a single pass in the middle. Above it, way on high was a rope bridge. It was there because someone, somewhere in MA cared. That guy is out there. He just needs more power. ;)

  4. Mindark can and does fix the bad scenery from time to time if you gripe about it enough in support tickets and forums... but they are extremely slow to do so... There's still a TON of 'issues' with estate placement and orientation that happened at VU 10 that still exists in game at the moment... biggest visual issue in that regard is where the 'manmade' stuff like the apartments, etc. connect with the environment made stuff like the ground... tons of places you can see this issue in apartment basements, etc. Same goes for 'thrown together' scenes like the n00b areas where 'caves' exist because someone didn't piece together this patch of land and that patch just perfectly so there are 'holes' in the ground that shouldn't be there...

Some of the classics I've seen over the years:

I think the last pic's sand trap above got fixed after about 6 months of support tickets... the others (including that upside down booth that hangs above where the sand trap was) I don't think got fixed yet... tons of little glitches like this all over the place. Part of the reason a lot of the cities look like ghost towns imho.

Yup plenty of things still a mess. It really seems a case of there simply are not enough pairs of hands. I remember Alf Svennson said they couldn't import anything from pre CryTopia. I think this was early or mid implementation though because clearly they did in the end. But yes as you say... so many buildings have landscape or plants sticking through or no/messed up lighting.

  7. Since many, many years...

  8. I just installed it. The links to Syndicate are there and even one music track is sooooo close to the old adlib music.
I love the huge city, where I am already lost in. Not yet into leveling but hacked some ATMs...its not an easy game. :)

Lets SEE for how long it can hypnotize me...

  9. Greetings :)

The social aspect of EU (PE when I first started playing in 2005) was what kept me in the game. The first months exploring, getting lost and killed by just about everything, trying to find TPs, and chatting with a very friendly and helpful community got me hooked. Getting stuck and having to depend on the kindness of strangers to rescue me from the middle of an Atrox spawn. I spent hours just hanging out and chatting. I met some very cool avatars and my friend list was always green.

I stopped playing regularly a couple of years ago, but still logged in from time to time. My friend list was more red every time. I just spend a couple of hours running around Calypso, and feeling like I was the only one on the planet. I hunted a bit and got bored very quickly. Without the social interaction, it's just not fun anymore.

    Does anyone dance anymore?

    Cheers,
    JackFree
