We'll be doing a wee bit of work on the site today. It might happen that you see some downtime or other strange behaviour.

Please do not be alarmed, as it is expected. There is no reason to panic. The world is not about to en... hey, check out that asteroid!

  4. I see you can login with facebook account now, how does the the connection to facebook really work? I dont want to have anything at all to do with that site but then I dont want to give up my EP account either, but if it's connected to facebook I got no choice really :((

You can use both. If you have a FaceBook account and are logged in, that can be used to authenticate you, or, if you are a new user, you can sign up with that instead. However, you are under no obligation whatsoever to use FB in any way, while still being able to enjoy the forum :)

  6. but how does that work, do your forum now share any information with FB, and if so what? I guess it have to in order for this to work...

We do not share any information :) The XenForo software takes advantage of the fact that FaceBook is used by a lot of people, meaning a lot of people will have already logged in on it. To make things easier, it is possible to tap into FaceBook's APIs, and obtain a set of credentials that way. If you would choose to use your FaceBook account to logon to EntropiaPlanets, you will not have to type your EP password, but instead your FaceBook credentials will take over. (A lot of sites use this mechanism nowadays, as it makes it easier for someone new to get involved in an existing community).

If you do not want anything to do with FaceBook, it is still possible to use the old username/password authentication method without any trouble whatsoever, and also in that case, we are not sending any personal information on to FaceBook.

  8. ok thanks, yes I noticed this FB takeover on incredible many sites the last couple of months only. Guess I have to take your word for it and use google a bit more (even tho I hate them for stealing personal information from my hdd in the past, thats when I learned to be very observant about these things)
