Conquest Forum Game - Discussion

    Well, the conquest system should be back up and running. I reinstalled a brand new game from scratch and undid whatever work was done on it since we started with the system to begin with.

    I left the settings from the last game intact, but you will find some functionality is currently missing:

    The trade system has been removed altogether from the game. I am not sure the trade system will be back any time soon. The code for it can be put back into place easily, but as it default opened the door for exploiting, and me not having the insight into exactly which part of the code was affected, I'm reluctant to put this back in.

    Furthermore, the functionality to have discussions on a seperate sub forum is not working for the time being. Instead, we went back to the old system of comment groups within the system. [STRIKE]At this very moment, I am aware of a bug in that system with the user avatars. This will be addressed some time soon.[/STRIKE]

    [STRIKE]The "time until next cycle" message is not showing at this moment. This will be addressed some time soon.[/STRIKE]

    Feel free to give the game another run. I have reset everything to ensure the missing functionality will not affect the gameplay. Please report any findings you have, and also feel free to let us know what functionality you miss.

    Were back in the game.

    Sorry to any foul team mates, It looks like some of you rejoined the same tribe, I figured it was a new game and didn't know what to choose, so was defiantly not intentionally abandoning you. Ill miss the communication and stratagizing, sure hope my new tribe works as smoothly as you guys.

    Admin: The current settings seem ok, the lack of troop or gold transfers will likely cause less problems till you can get a handle on all the ins and outs of it, so I would say a good job setting it up so quickly.

    2 things that come to mind are,

    1. Set either a duration period or set of winning conditions to allow a balanced game to last a long time and an unbalanced game to be finished early with fewer upset players.

    2. Change as little as possible during an actual game, if it is an unbalanced game it will finish quickly and corrections can be made. Making lots of changes mid game upset strategies and frustrate people.

    Also it would probably be a good idea to take suggestions a few days before a game appears to be finishing to announce the eminent end (a set time) and take suggestions on how to better balance it.

    Wizz is right that changes need to be made each game to prevent stagnation even when you do get a good balance going, so I'm sure that is to be expected and looked forward too.

    Hey Narfi :) thanks for good suggestions. I believe the above is already a plan, though. Not sure how it will work or for how long, but we need to make sure everything is ready for the 'real fight' :D

    The trade and forum made it a very nice team game, now it seems we went a step back. What went wrong?

    Oh woe is me, victim of such perfidious calamity.

    To see previous friends, nay, almost family, subverted by obvious genetic manipulation!! How else does one explain the transformation from tall, proud Foul to that squat, headlice-infected, ant-headed abomination called Molisk? :)

    That the obese ones shifted allegiance to the Feffoid tribe is understandable (fat Foul NEVER get laid), but still, the betrayal runs deep, and the salt stings mercilessly in the wound.

    Cry havoc, and let slip the Foul of war!! Rally around my sticky-fingered brethren, and let us smite the heathen!!

    (or.... to put it another way.... damn, we could use a few more players in the Foul tribe) :D

    Hey!! We like being squat you lanky skinny peperami's with eyes from a squid stuck on. It's not so far to the ground when we fall over... And headlice are a blooming wonderful source of protein as well as keeping us awake and alert during the wee hours....

  13. Oh if anyone still needs to know, the cycle timer is on the hour, 20 past and 20 to. Next one should be 14:20

    OP has been edited to reflect the changes I just made:

    The avatars should now display correctly in the comments section. If this is not the case, please let me know. I have not joined the game, which means I do not have access to it, either. However, I implemented the same fix I used before, so this should address that.

    Furthermore, the time left until next cycle has been updated. Feel free to use this to verify the cycle countdown works as intended :)

    Finally, I addressed a gramattical issue ;)

    As stated, the trading functionality has been removed for the time being, due to the loophole that obviously existed in the original code. Seeing we started a game cycle already, I do not intend to re-add that functionality any time soon, but if we manage to plug the hole, maybe I can add it before we start the next cycle. Any suggestions for a more transparent taxing functionality are more than welcome.

    I shall address the issue with the subforums shortly. The comments ought to allow you to communicate with one another for now, and I need to divert my attention to some other parts of the forum for a bit. I shall be back soon!

    In the meantime, may mutants mercilessly massacre more monsters!

  20. The countdown is resetting as a cycle refreshes, but it is showing 1 hour.
    IE The cycle is 40 mins but the counter is showing 1 hour...just resets to 1 hour with 20 mins to go.
