Anyone preordered? I just did today having enjoyed the open beta quite a bit. I'll at least give it a go for a few months.

    Anyone else?

Fun, I actually read a review today on Star Trek Online in a danish Games magazine I treated myelf with :D

Among other things they said that even if it's in the beta, it's still worth trying - because there's both soul and energy put into the game. The pictures also looks quite awesome!

It looks like an MMO I could play for a few months and then I would go back to Entropia or Eve my mains.

Thats pretty much what I expect Wren. I think it will be fun to grind up getting bigger/cooler ships but I don't really see a lasting endgame to stick around long term for.

I pretty much look at any game that can distract me for a few months as a good investment over being active in EU for those few months. $60 to get the deluxe edition and then $15/month for 3 months won't even add up the 1 bad hunt if I had played EU for the 3 months.

whats the game like. reading a little of their fourm, i get the impression that its a game that could have been a single player mission based game thats been put on MMO servers.

Thats pretty spot on I think, besides of course the battles where you need the help of others.
I played the open beta a bit and uninstalled it today... can't see myself playing it for long as its just much too easy.
The funkilling element for me was that really everyone is a ship captain from the start on and all the game is about is doing missions to get better equipment.

I dunno... was like I just had everything I could ask for from the start on... besides that its a nice game with just some bugs left to sort out but I guess they will manage to do that in time.

Some people have labeled it a 'massively single player online game'. The thing is, almost any MMO is as multiplayer or singleplayer as you make it. You can hunt solo all day long in EU too.

I have actually found STO to be pretty social. One interesting thing it has is dynamic team formation which I've never really seen before. The game is highly instanced.. so say you show up for your mission in the 'XYZ System', you show up there and are teamed in an instance with 3 other players that happened to show up at the same time as you to do the same mission. (you can disable this of course and only team with people you choose to team with)

I imagine there will be higher level end game stuff that will require large teams / guilds. Not sure if they will have raids per se, but I'm sure there will be something.

I did enjoy my stay during open beta. The game seem to have a good mix of elements (among with some mindless quest-clicking).

The following week(s) will tell if I miss it enough to pay&play a few extra months.. Unfortunately my gaming time is limited and I do plan to spend it with PS3 (= Heavy Rain), and Entropia.

End of the OB is going on now with an little event, i was in for a couple of hours and helped the feds kill of Borgs that had attacked the EarthBase.

Outside the EarthBase there is some Klingons attacking, same in Various other systems....Ended up in DeapSpace with an BorgCube at one time, together with some other players but i quickley warped out to Openspace again and Returned to EarthSpace.

Well, time to log on again and see if the Event still runs and if there will be some surprises in the End of it.

The forum sucks is mostly alot of QQ, been playing since OP and currently Lieutenant Commander...the beginning is not that exciting, you get enough items to get you around but later on strategy plays a much bigger role...

If your into sci fi, exploring, etc you will appreciate it, if you are solely into RP and enjoy mostly fantasy you probably won't like it. The skill system is very open like EU, you don't have to select tank, mage, etc from the start, you build up your strengths and your bridge officers skills as well...some can be confused as skills here are more complex than your regular mmo's...

There is alot of diversification as far as what is possible with skills, items, bridge officers, ships, etc... someone with a tier 2 ship that is well equipped can kill a tier 5 ship that is inadequately equipped.

"One interesting thing it has is dynamic team formation which I've never really seen before."

It is great fun with teams or you can solo the entire game as well...which is cool depending on your gameplay, at least you have a choice.

There were several stability issues during headstart and they are working on increasing server capacity (this is what the QQ on forums is about, and retail stores not having the game available, etc). The level of customization, either from avatar creation, bridge officers, ships, etc is very extensive.

Endgame for me is PvP, but that's what I like. Im not a trekkie but so far I'm enjoying it, has alot of room for improvement ofc.

Centech are you playing federation or klingon? Legacy the event was over at the end of open beta.

I've been playing since just before the end of the open beta and been having a great time solo so far but I'll be checking for a fleet soon...
The "over 40" fleet sounded interesting, no teenage drama crap to deal with..

Yeah, i ended it by dancing the "RobotDance" on a table in the Admiral Office at Eartstation:)

We where a little group in there having our own little Farwell OpenBeta party:D

Still playing, still like it very much! At the momen im LtC 3 with my Engineerer, flying an Tier2 Cruiser. Trying to figure out the best build for me, wich is kind of importent to do right due to no Respec option at the moment. But it will come.
