Slapping off - Time for a well earned rest.

Blog entry posted by Dalas, Jun 27, 2011.

It's been a long time since I wrote in this blog, and that's for various reasons. Partly it's because of being so crazily busy, partly it's because I am very picky when thinking of something to write. Now I believe I have a bit of a reason to write (and will do my utmost to find more inspiration to bash away more on this blog).

As you may have heard or read here, our now 6 week old baby daughter popped out of my girlfriend. What an event! As you may also know, we are in the process of completely renovating our new apartment. Sounds like a lot going on? We thought so too.

So... We decided to travel to England ("my" country) for a holiday and a well earned break from the apartment renovation. We arrived at my parents' house today (sunday) and will be here for 3 weeks. In those 3 weeks we intend to RELAX! That means none of that "oh we must do this and we must get around to this, but don't forget this and this, oh and we can't go without seeing this person!" stuff. This also happens to be the second time we've visited England since I moved to Norway last August. Our last visit ended up being extremely hectic and we didn't get any chillout time, so it didn't feel like a holiday at all.

Why do I feel it necessary to write about this?

Well, this is a very special trip in a few ways. Firstly it's our daughter's first trip anywhere more than 10 mins away from home (and what a leap this is!). Secondly it's her first trip to her father's country of birth, and very much "home country". Also it's the first time she meets her auntie (my sister) and many others who have an interest in seeing her.

Thirdly something fun happened on the journey here. It is a bit of tragedy mixed with a bit of fun coincidence. On the journey from Norway to England, we discovered upon arrival at the airport that someone had decided to jump in front of a train which caused chaos on the train networks around London. Confused, I tried to find order in the chaos and find the solution to get us home. In the end it turned out that we had to take a detour train journey which would make us late for our final leg of the journey. This was quite a special detour though because it meant that we'd have to go to Cambridge first.

Why is that special?

Well, you may know that Cambridge is my surname, so through a strange turn of events, my daughter ended up travelling to Cambridge on her first ever trip to England. I've never been there before but together we shared the experience of going there for the first time.

So as I sit and type this at the beginning of this 3 weeks of rest, with two snoozing Frejas in my bed, I hope firstly that our daughter enjoys her stay in England. I hope also that such fortune as with the Cambridge visit strikes again and again on this trip (discounting of course the suicide) and that one day my little girl will come to appreciate small pleasures like this.

Now it's time to, as they say in Norway, slappe av (relax!).

Sounds like fun. Trains are great. Even the mishapps. Many people think they can get across before the train gets to them. Ive seen it twice while in the west. They mis judge the speed and the tracks and rocks are hard to get over not as easy as it looks. Dont tell her that part of the story, does not sound good for bed time.
Your yound daughter has been further then I ever have. Shes lucky. Maybe next time youll have some advance notice before any other little ones "popps" out. Ill explain how it happens in PM. It not just fun your having.
